Breed Spotlight: Silver-Laced Wyandotte

My Silver-Laced Wyandotte, Amelia, is my husband and children's favorite chicken. I will admit that she's the most beautiful of all that I own, and she's one of my most docile. While Dolly and Rosa (my Plymouth Rock & Black Sexlink) spend a lot of time following us around the yard and requesting food, Amelia keeps to herself and provides entertainment by trying to fly up on anything she can get to. Wyandottes come in different colors, including Golden-Laced, Blue-Laced Red, Silver-Laced (obviously), etc. The adult females get to be about 6 lbs, and the males grow to be about 8.5 lbs. They have yellow legs and rose combs (wide and flat), and are hardy in cold-weather climates. Wyandottes typically lay 4-5 brown eggs per week during the summer, and about 3 eggs per week during the winter. "I think I'll write a blog!" Easy first words, followed by not having a clue on how to start. I decided to start a blog because I want to talk about my crazy life with family and chickens without feeling bad about putting it all over social media. I've been a wife for 7 years, mom for 5 years, and chicken owner for 3 months. I'm hoping to write about our new experiences as chicken owners and what all is involved in chick/en ownership, as well as including fun stories about my family. So what's first??? Introductions! Clean Freak & Country Girl Collide

I like to think of myself as a country girl. When I was younger, I spent practically every weekend on my aunt's farm. She had horses (one was owned by me), cows, chickens, pigs (one owned by me & my cousin), cats, dogs, guinea pigs, goats, and sheep. I remember feeding the baby goats bottles of milk and playing hide & seek in the dark. I remember laying out on the roof of the barn and watching the clouds roll by. I remember baling hay and driving my uncle's huge truck (which was terrifying) when I couldn't lift the hay bales anymore. I would say days spent on my aunt's farm are probably my favorite childhood/youth memories. However, while I do think of myself as mostly country, I do have one quality that is very contradictory of the country lifestyle: I am a complete neat freak . My aunt had this huge barn where all the cows lived and hay was stored, but there was this one room that was partially closed off that I turned into my fort. And I cleaned and organize...
