Breed Spotlight: Silver-Laced Wyandotte

My Silver-Laced Wyandotte, Amelia, is my husband and children's favorite chicken. I will admit that she's the most beautiful of all that I own, and she's one of my most docile. While Dolly and Rosa (my Plymouth Rock & Black Sexlink) spend a lot of time following us around the yard and requesting food, Amelia keeps to herself and provides entertainment by trying to fly up on anything she can get to. Wyandottes come in different colors, including Golden-Laced, Blue-Laced Red, Silver-Laced (obviously), etc. The adult females get to be about 6 lbs, and the males grow to be about 8.5 lbs. They have yellow legs and rose combs (wide and flat), and are hardy in cold-weather climates. Wyandottes typically lay 4-5 brown eggs per week during the summer, and about 3 eggs per week during the winter. They generally don't go broody, which makes them an excellent choice if you don't plan on hatching any of your eggs. I almost didn't select this breed to be in my flock because everything I read described them as being divas and bullies to other breeds. While I only have experience with the one Wyandotte, I will say that this isn't the case for her. She's actually at the bottom of the pecking order of my flock, which means she's like the peasant chicken to the queen Dolly, haha. She has never tried to challenge the other chickens in this, and is probably the only one out of all my girls that is never aggressive to her flock mates. I would recommend her breed to anyone. Now onto pictures of this pretty girl!
